Turn your daily coffee habit into fresh, homegrown mushrooms.

This kit lets you recycle spent coffee grounds into delicious oyster mushrooms - a simple, satisfying way to reduce waste and grow food at the same time.

🌿Why You’ll Love It

  • ♻️ Recycle coffee grounds into food
  • 🍄 Grow oyster mushrooms at home
  • 💧 Simple, low-tech setup
  • 🌍 Great for sustainability-minded growers
  • 🧪 Fun for homes, offices, and classrooms

🌿What You’ll Need

  • Spent coffee grounds (fresh, not moldy)
  • A container with a lid (around 2–3 gallons)
  • A spray bottle for misting

👉 That’s it - no fancy equipment required

🌿How It Works

  1. Collect fresh coffee grounds daily (store in freezer until ready)
  2. Layer coffee grounds with the included mushroom culture
  3. Repeat layering until your container is full
  4. Keep moist and let the mycelium do its thing

👉 With time, your container transforms into a mushroom-producing system

🌿What to Expect

  • Gradual colonization of coffee grounds
  • Mushrooms form once conditions are right
  • A hands-on, evolving growing process

👉 This is more of a grow-along project than a “set it and forget it” kit

🌿What Will Grow?

  • Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus)
  • Meaty, mild, and easy to cook
  • Great sautéed, grilled, or added to meals

🌿Why Coffee Grounds?

Most of the coffee you brew isn’t actually used - the majority becomes waste.

Oyster mushrooms can:

  • Break down coffee grounds
  • Transform them into food
  • Leave behind material that can be reused in your garden

👉 It’s a full-circle system: coffee → mushrooms → soil

🌿Tips for Success

  • Use fresh coffee grounds (not old or moldy)
  • Avoid espresso grounds (too fine for airflow)
  • Keep everything clean and slightly moist
  • Be patient - this is a process

🌿Perfect For

  • Coffee lovers
  • Sustainability enthusiasts
  • Offices and break rooms
  • Science projects and classrooms

Cultivating Oyster Mushrooms With Mushroom Mountain’s Coffee Cultivator Kit

FULL INSTRUCTIONS

Coffee Cultivator

What is the Coffee Grounds Mushroom Cultivator?
This is a starter culture that allows you to grow oyster mushrooms by recycling spent coffee grounds in a container over time.
Is this the same as a fruiting kit?
No - this is a grow-along system, not a ready-to-fruit kit.
You build the growing environment yourself by adding layers of coffee grounds and culture.
Is this beginner-friendly?
Yes, but it requires a bit more involvement than a fruiting kit.
It’s a hands-on process and great for people who enjoy experimenting and learning.
What do I need to get started?
You will need:
• Fresh spent coffee grounds
• A container with a lid (about 2–3 gallons)
• A spray bottle for misting

The mushroom culture is included.
Can I use coffee grounds from any source?
Yes - home coffee or coffee shop grounds both work well.

Just make sure they are:
• Fresh
• Not moldy
• Stored properly (freezing helps preserve them)
Can I use espresso grounds?
It is not recommended.
Espresso grounds are too fine and can restrict airflow, which makes it harder for the mushroom culture to grow properly.
How long does it take to grow mushrooms?
This process takes longer than a fruiting kit.

• Colonization happens gradually as you add layers
• Mushrooms form once the system is fully established
• Patience is key
How often do I add coffee grounds?
You can add new layers daily or as you collect grounds. Build the container gradually until it is filled.
How often do I need to mist it?
Only when the mushrooms start fruiting.
What kind of mushrooms will grow?
Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus species), which are:

• Easy to grow
• Mild and meaty in flavor
• Great for cooking
What happens after I harvest mushrooms?
You can continue adding fresh coffee grounds to keep the system going. Eventually, the material can also be added to your garden or compost.
Can I use the leftover material in my garden?
Yes - after the mushrooms have grown (the mycelium will decaffeinate the grounds), the material can be used in:

• Garden beds
• Compost piles
• Soil-building projects
When will my order ship?
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days.
What makes this product different?
• Turns everyday waste into food
• Encourages sustainable growing practices
• Hands-on, educational growing experience
Do I get mushrooms right away?
No, you will get mushrooms about 5 weeks after you stop feeding the system with coffee grounds.
