Cloned from the wild forest of South Carolina, and tested on logs here at Mushroom Mountain. This specimen is darker than the most common Woodear (Auricularia angiospermarum) you find in the woods, and it is covered with white-grayish tufted hairs on the outer surface and margin.
Edibility and Taste: The flavor of this mushroom is neutral. It really doesn't taste like anything, but what it does feature is the crunch. I love adding them to my ramen noodles. Some research is showing that wood ear could help with your gut health, help with boosting your immune system and also could help protect your liver.
Grows On: Hardwood logs, definitely oak.
